Overview Restylane ®

Miss Jane Olver FRCS FRCOphth. Ophthalmic and Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon

What is Restylane ®?

Restylane ® is a facial filler used for aesthetic rejuvenation of soft tissue including tear troughs below the eyes and hollows above the eyes. It consists of Hyaluronic Acid Gel (HAG).

It is a temporary treatment which reverses with time and can also be reversed by a simple injection of hyaluronidase.

Restylane ® is used in the lips and around the mouth, the chin, below the eyes in the tear toughs and above the eyes in the superior eyelid sulcus and under the eyebrows, in the cheeks and on the forehead. It replaces the facial volume lost with age, weight loss or trauma. It augments facial volume to enhance rejuvenation.

Natural – Hyaluronic acid gel is produced naturally by the body and is found in soft tissues. Restylane ® is synthesized hyaluronic acid gel and is chemically similar to the natural occurring gel.

Reversible – It is entirely reversible, either with time or by injection of hyaluronidase to degrade it. It is very well tolerated with few side effects and complications, see below
